 The information minister stated on Wednesday that Nigeria will conduct its first census in 17 years in May due to postponed governorship elections.The most populous nation in Africa originally planned to conduct its census on March 29.The new governor polls were postponed by a week to March 18.

"I think the National Population Commission cannot start the census as planned because of the rescheduled elections," minister Lai Mohammed told reporters.The distribution of oil revenues and legislative representation are based on the census figures.

More than 200 million people are thought to reside in the nation. According to the UN, it will have the third-largest population in the globe by 2050.
