The legal team for the Opposition Leader, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, has informed the court that he did not authorize or issue Letters of Credit in the ambulance case.

They contend that specific accusation is unfounded and ought to be dropped.

The attorneys claimed that the prosecution had not presented enough proof to support this charge in their legal submissions to the court.

Thus, they have requested that the accused be cleared and released by the judge.

"We assert that the prosecution has failed to present adequate evidence on key elements of the offenses in Counts 1 and 5 to the extent that the evidence on file does not support but contradict these significant claims in the particulars of offenses for Counts 1 and 5.

It is evident from the evidence on file that AI never "authorized" or "caused irrevocable" letters of credit to be established, nor did AI act in any way without proper cause and authorization, in contrast to the claims made in the particulars of offense of Counts 1 and 5 that AI "authorized" or "caused" irrevocable letters of credit to be established.

The Bank of Ghana received Exhibits A and B1, both of which carry the signature of AI, on behalf of the Minister of Finance, as shown by Exhibit 5 for A1.

In their thorough submissions to the court, the attorneys contended that the claim was demonstrably false.

They added that it is a misuse of prosecutorial authority to pursue Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson.
